Peyrilhac Town Hall and bakery

Peyrilhac Town Hall and bakery

In this view, the Town Hall is the building on the right in shadow and the bakery has the turquoise car parked in front of its window. The road to Oradour-sur-Glane is on the left at the foot of the hill and passes in front of the church (just like it does in Oradour-sur-Glane and Oradour-sur-Vayres). According to André Desourteaux, Karl Gerlach and his driver were held in front of the Town Hall and the rope to tie them with was brought from a barn next to the bakery (see Gerlach's statement). This capture was witnessed by many people and André Desourteaux claims that he has personally spoken to several of them. According to Desourteaux, it is likely that Gerlach saw a signpost pointing to Oradour and mistook it for a village sign and thus confused a direction indicator with a place name.
