Madame Rouffanche

Madame Marguerite Rouffanche, the sole survivor from the church on 10th June. Madame Rouffanche spent over a year convalescing from her wounds (she was shot 5 times), but she was well enough to give evidence at the trial in Bordeaux in 1953. She eventually returned to Oradour-sur-Glane when the new town was built and lived there until her death in March 1988. This wanting to stay near the town is a feature of many of the survivors and their relatives, a desire to be near their families.
