The Memorial to the dead in Oradour-sur-Glane cemetery: 2

Another view of the chief memorial in Oradour-sur-Glane cemetery. The main part of the cemetery is behind the photographer and it is here that the identifiable victims were buried in family plots. The unidentifiable bodies and bones were interred in several places, two of which can be seen either side of the main stele. These small ossuries have glass lids and the bones and bone fragments therein can be clearly seen when viewed from above. To the right of the 10 black memorial slabs carrying 642 victims names is the separate slab for the 44 people from Charly in Lorraine and to the left of the 10 black slabs (and out of sight in this view) is the memorial to the 9 victims from Alsace. Behind the hedge is the modern part of the cemetery and this is used for present day burials: see also picture 1 and the panorama.
