Georg René Boos and the baking container

Georges René Boos and the baking container
Photograph courtesy of Time magazine

Georg René Boos standing at the Barre giving evidence in 1953 at Bordeaux for the attack on Oradour. He was the senior of the Alsatians and the only one of them to volunteer for duty with the SS. In the foreground is a large baking container which had been found to contain the remains of a baby, when asked what he knew of it, Boos said nothing, remaining silent. The confined nature of the courtroom is very evident in this photograph. Boos is holding a microphone for the public address system in his right hand.
