North entrance to town

North entrance to Belchite

Main entrance to the town of Belchite from the north. Like Oradour-sur-Glane, a new town has grown up alongside the old, but unlike the case of France with its memorial town of Oradour, this seems a place that Spain is trying to forget. The signs that you can see (which simply say "Historic town") are the only ones present, there is no further information other than name plates for some of the buildings in the town, such as the churches. There is no visitor centre or other tourist information at all. Note the soft-drink machine on the left of the entrance. The new town is to the rear and right of the photographer.
