Aire de Repos in Oradour-sur-Glane

This photograph shows the location of the Borne (by the side of the Motor Caravan on the left of view) for electricity and water at the Aire. The Aire which opened in 2004 in Oradour (see map) is only intended for Motor Caravans and does not cater for towed caravans. As can be seen in the middle of view, it is also equipped with toilets, washbasins and rubbish bins. The Aire is well lit at night and is without any charge for staying overnight, with no stated limit as to the maximum length of stay. If drinking water or electricity is required, 100 litres, or 1 hour can be had for €2 from the Borne (but you need a Jeton from either the Tourist Office or Town Hall). There is no cost to use the toilets or washbasins (cold water only). Depending on where you park it may be necessary to use levelling ramps, as some of the spaces to the right of view are not horizontal. There are now a total of 27 unmarked, hard-standing places for Motor Caravans and additional space for more near-by. The Aire is clearly signed from the roundabout at the Centre de la Mémoire in Oradour and is at the end of the Rue du Stade, just past the sports / football ground. It takes about 20 minutes to walk to the Centre de la Mémoire along more-or-less level pavements, but if you wish to drive, parking during daylight hours at the Centre is free. This view was taken in June 2010, at about 10:00 in the morning and as can be seen the Aire was quite busy, so you are advised to arrive early, say before 16:00 in order to get a space, especially a level one: see view of Aire in 2004 and view of Aire in 2009.
