The tributes placed on the Crypt steps at Oradour

The tributes placed on the Crypt steps in Oradour-sur-Glane in 2014

In previous years the tributes have been laid in the Oradour-sur-Glane cemetery at the foot of the main memorial to the dead. This has been an awkward affair in the past as the space available is very limited and has led to considerable crowding (the 65th anniversary was particularly bad in this respect). This picture was taken within a hour of the ceremony ending on 10th June 2014 and whilst the gazebo was still in place, albeit in the process of being dismantled, just about everyone had left the site. During the ceremony the crypt was locked shut, presumably as a security measure and many security-type people were to be seen, all wearing earpieces and preventing the public from doing as they wished.
