Robert Hébras, one of the survivors of the massacre

Robert Hébras, in a good humour; taken outside the Town Hall in Oradour-sur-Glane new town at about 13:30. He was one of only five men to escape from the Laudy barn on the 10th June 1944 and one of two left alive on 10th June 2014 (the other was Jean-Marcel Darthout, who did not attend the ceremony). Hébras was born in Oradour-sur-Glane on 29th June 1925 and thus was 87 years old at the time of this photograph. It is only a co-incidence, but the man who led the attack on Oradour, Adolf Diekmann, was killed in action on 29th June 1944, Hébras's 18th birthday.
